A few days ago a friend of mine deleted my partitions off of my main drive and its been causing me so much hell. I've taken the hard drive out of my computer, put it in another and used the Minitool partition recovery program to restore them and rebuild the master boot record. after doing that, i put my hdd back into my main computer and it still won't boot windows. my friend tells me he'll bring a windows usb to my house to try startup repair. didn't work so he left. at the moment i have the hdd in another pc and my plan is to extract all my files that i need to keep onto an external hdd and fresh install windows on my main hdd (the one that has the partitions deleted). But i've ran into another problem. the hdd is in this computer as I type this but will not let me access any files through windows file explorer. even though the drive shows in device manager and in disk management. any help would be greatly appreciated either to get the hard drive to function normally again or if that fails to extract files and fresh install windows. thanks.

Its because the file system is RAW.

thats why u cant access them.

Next time if u accidentally deleted ur partition.

Dont do anything to the HDD.

Use partition recovery software.

i recommend active undelete.

2weeks ago. i accidentally deleted my partition.

But i was able to fully recover it without losing any single data with it.

so what could i possibly do now?

If u didnt write anything to the HDD there's a chance u can recover it.

But if u already mess with it then i dont know.

The best way is to finds out.

Try it now.

i havent done anything to the hdd besides restore the partitions and rebuild the master boot record. so you're saying i should try active undelete?

I've downloaded active undelete and started the partition recovery wizard and selected the available sectors to be scanned and this followed:

Do u see the status? if its bad then it cant be recovered.

and overlapped mean the partition has been overwritten with the new partition (overlapped) u got the point right?
Make sure u remember the capacity of the old partition. If u recover the wrong partition then the old partition u were trying to recover will be overlapped and will make it more harder to recover.

and try to run deep scan so u can see more result.

the other partitions cant be scanned because of "inconsistent volume integrity". what is causing thise6622518b7df22656a1e843fae620fa1.png

Because there's a missing information on the volume. mostly because its a partition from thousand years ago that has been overlapped thousand times.

Just recover the right partition and dont make any mistakes.

it isnt letting me recover any partitions Status; Excellent . This partition can not be restored. Status; Bad. This partition can not be restored

And this, kids, is why you backup your computer.

Seriously though, why the fuck would your friend delete your partitions? As some juvenile little joke? Was a fucking asshole. I hope your friend feels really bad.

From the looks of it, the partitions are corrupted. You might be able to recover some random files here and there from it, but you're not restoring Windows.

My suggestion: Backup any files that are still accessible to another drive (A second HDD or a USB flash drive, etc). Then, delete all partitions and reinstall Windows.

THEN, once you've reinstalled Windows, installed drivers, updates, and applications, create a backup image of your whole computer, and store the image file on a separate drive. (There are many many image based backup software to choose from, including lots of free options)

I highly recommend either getting a hold of Runtime Software's GetDataBack NTFS or learning how to recover data using the PartedMagic live Linux environment. Both have saved my bacon more than a handful of times, sometimes even from my own accidental mistakes. (Note to self, be sure you've selected the right disk number before running the clean command in diskpart...)

If you need a hand with either of the two above recovery softwares, let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Please note: PartedMagic is linked via an affiliate link, because I fully support and believe in their product's capabilities - it has never once failed me.
