Hello!

I am currently looking for an upgrade to my GPU. I wanted to buy a 1070 (seems like more value to the 1080?), yet i am unsure if my PSU can run it.

Specs:

Motherbord: Asus Z170-P

RAM: 2x8 G Skill 2133MHz DDR4

CPU: I7:-6700k 4ghz

GPU: msi gtx 970 4gd5 oc

PSU: fsp500-60hhn

Thank you for reading this far!

EDIT:

I have been running with that PSU for over two and a half years, and the GPU for soon two years.

The value per dollar on a 1070 is def greater than a 1080, and your PSU should be fine if you're already using it for your 970, they have about the same power requirement (1070 requires a bit less)

Should work fine but would still recommend you seek an upgrade QUALITY wise (not wattage, wattage is fine).

EVGA Supernova G2 550w / Corsair RMx 550w are some great PSUs.

I second his idea, cheap PSU delivers unclean power, the wattage might be fine but Id never cheap out on a power supply, it is the component that is the most likely to bring other components with it when it dies

Here's his PSU, not the best, it's not just the brand, it's the rating

82% 85% and 82% aren't that bad, definently not worth the upgrade for another 2% of power efficiency

Well he could also higher his wattage, you see, a PSU has a 10% deterioration of power delivery every year, at 500W with an 82% rating, and a power consumption of around 350W while gaming, id see the power supply die within 4 years, and it will most likely bring other components with it

I can tell you for a fact that's not true. I know capacitors age, but I also know people who have lower end antec power supplies from 10 years ago and they work fine . If it's a 400 W psu that they have, and it's lost 10% every year, then it would theoretically be supplying a bit over 100 W which it isn't.
