Proper application of thermal paste

Hi. I know there are a lot of ways in applying thermal paste to CPUs... but I was curious on the majority on the most reliable and effective way applying thermal paste esp to a hexacore CPU.. e.g. 6850k. Kindly post your pics how youve done it. Some would do the "x" pattern.. some would just apply a dot at the center and thats it... btw, I dont intend to use water. I am using DH15s.

Thanks

Really, they all work near enough as well as the other. Line, X, dot, they all get spread by the pressure of the cooler.

You make a smiley face with the thermal paste on your CPU like me.

You all are forgetting the smiley face method.

Size/shape of a grain of rice in the middle, press the heatsink down fully without lifting a side (or ya get air pockets), and gently twist it back and forth 3 or 4 times to help spread it around before locking it into place. Then put the system under load for 2 hours so the grease goes more fluid and fully spreads.
