Optical slot

Hey,

 

I am wondering what the best solution would be to get an optical slot in my PC. Buy a new motherboard with a built-in one, buy a sound card or buy an external? Which will be best for sound quality?

 

I am planning on buying a headset which would require an optical port to function as good as possible.

It's not a slot... it's an SPDIF port.
