More RAM or more VRAM?

I have enough for a 1060 3gb and can afford myself then a nice used or new RAM for my remaining RAM slot

I might not have enough for a new 6gb one though. I need to wait a week or so until the rest money arrives (From selling skins and stuff on cs go) to see if I have enough for 1060 6gb

I do video editing from time to time so more ram is gud, gaming and do lot of chroming and stuff on LTT.

Also I am getting a 4K TV soonish. It has nothing to do with gpu. I know 1060 6gb can future proof a bit in terms of 4K and allowing better experience (does not achieve 30fps but 20 ish is fine for me considering I played lots of game in the past  with igpu lol). Lowering settings do fine for me too. I don't know if I will get any triple A game soon too. I have seen benchmarks. GTA V runs 30 fps, TW3 runs around 20. ROTR fails and run 12 ish fps but lowering settings should do. (most demanding games out there)

So should I get less VRAM for more RAM since I have 8GB atm. I would like to fill the empty slot in my mobo with more ram.

Or more VRAM and stay the same RAM. Right now my iGPU has no VRAM so it's an upgrade anyway lol. My old GPU has 3GB

Don't write anything else that is useless like

Spoiler

1060 doesn't come in blue, get vaporx sapphire instead or palit gamerock or asus dragon 1070

i5 4460 will bottleneck 1060 in 4K and 8k, get FX 8350 for more core and higher clock speed

your 500w delta oem PSU won't cut it you need 1000w psu

case is too small you need at least a super atx tower

your mobo is not compatible, pcie x32 is needed

do you have enough pcie power slots?

ram bottlenecks the hell out of it

1060 only support win 7

get rx 480 or 470, cheaper and shadowplay sux

because that's none of my business

Are you hitting 100% usage on your system ram?

Even with gaming currently 8gb is still fine, go for the 6gb 1060.

Go with the 1060 6GB.

Edit: The 4460 won't be the bottleneck in 4K or 8K if you're using the 1060 3GB.

Well...in terms of performance, the 3GB 1060 is more or less the 780 Ti, and the 6GB is more or less the 980 with more VRAM. 4K is still probably going to use more than 3GB, even if you turn down the settings. You might be good for the next little while...but I'd strongly suggest going for the 6GB card. Also, if you're looking to keep it for some time, I'd advise going with an RX 480, since that'll be better optimized for DX12 and Vulkan. Team Red or Team Green. Take your pick.

Yeah, but if it ever becomes a problem it's easier to fix than VRAM. I would also rather have a 1060 6 gig and 8gb ram than a 1060 3g and 16gb ram any day.

And, at 1080p on the settings the 1060 is capable of 3gb is a bottleneck in some games.

30fps + is totally fine for me. Not that I care. In fact my steam library consists of cs go and l4d2. Most demanding is portal 2 but I will look forward to more games. So far Mirror's Edge is fun

Look, I'm not trying to offend you or anything. I'm just offering my two cents. I'm sorry for not reading the spoiler. I don't hate Nvidia. I don't hate Shadowplay. I just think the 480 is a better option than a 1060 at this point in time. Not that the 1060 is a bad option by any means.

Yeah I would get the 480 if it was not too much for me in Canada. Yeah. Guess I will have to wait until I can truly decide if my money can go with 1060 6gb.

Aye, a fellow Canadian!

My friend is building a gaming rig with a 480, and right now they have an offer where you can get a free copy of Civ 6 when you buy an AMD card. More the reason to go Team Red...(I'm a huge, huge, Civilization fan).

4gb or 8gb? I mean CIV 6 costs like 80 cad now so that's not a bad deal. Too bad I never played any and civ6 is not that demanding lol. Not a fan of strategy game too

That's what I thought so. Still looking for deals of 1060, side note, does ebay seller charge you with tax when you buy? I saw some 1060 6gb for sell on ebay for lie 309 cad with 6 cad of shipping but not sure if I had to pay the tax? The ebay says nothing about it but it's been sold by ncix outlet, not by a single person. Do companies use this way to avoid paying taxes?

Yes, sales tax should be charged onto whatever you're trying to buy by state and whatever it's sales tax percentage is.

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but I would verify this first through research and would base it on that: If more ram can increase fps and higher fps is a goal, I'd do that. If higher vram can increase resolution and detail (without lowering current fps with current ram) and better graphical quality is the goal, this upgrade would make a future ram upgrade easier (whether the future upgrade is currently planned or not, it's still potentially beneficial). Personally, based on the info you've given, I'd shoot for the 6gb

CPU: AMD Sempron 2400+ / MOBO: Abit NF7-S2G / GPU: WinFast A180BT 64MB / RAM: Mushkin DDR333 256MBx2 / HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 120GB
