nbn modem

i live in Australia and i just got switch onto our nbn and my old TP link 300mbs modem/router wont talk to the new line they have new modems that only understand the nbn or some shit but this new modem my isp sent only have 2 Ethernet ports and we have 4 Ethernet lines to computer and security systems and ive tried using the tp link as its router function but she just doesnt wanna play ball i had to take all the panels and shit off it so its just base pcb because it would otherwise over heat and i think that has fucked the thing a little but im just woundering if i can just get a 6 port ethernet switch and run the 2 Ethernet ports to the switch then plug the rest of our shit into the switch im not sure if a router need to be in between the switch and modem

Can you post a photo? Depending on what NBN connection you've got, chances are that's actually an NTU - network termination unit. Generally it'll convert fiber to RJ45 ports for WAN and VOiP. It contains no routing functionality.
