I have a router and modem combo. I use a home phone (I'm not removing it) so I need it. It doesn't have good reception. Could I connect a router to it? Could I connect it with a WAN cable?

Yes and no. If you connect the 2nd router via lan to wan, you will have double NAT issues and it could cause issues with some software. If you connect them LAN to LAN then you will need to turn off the DHCP server and firewall of the second router. I used this method for a time as Comcast gave us a Modem/Router combo when we had phone service. We later go rid of phone service and I ended up buying a modem.

You could how ever run a wireless access point. Which is basicly just the wirleess portion of what would be a wirelesss router. You will have to connect that access point directly to the router and it can help with wireless coverage.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken you can just run an ethernet cable from your existing router to the new one and it should work fine.  Probably gonna be a separate wifi signal though.
