Hey!

I am using a Netgear PLP1200 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S6DBGIS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) from the router downstairs to my computer upstairs. However when I run a speed test I am getting around 30 up and 30 down. However when I plug my laptop directly into the router itself I am getting speeds of 150 up 150 down. The house was built months ago and I don't know what is causing the problem. Any trouble shooting advice be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the powerline adapter isn't plugged into a power bar/ power strip.

Also, as a troubleshooting step, try taking the powerline adapter down in the same room and use the laptop to test the speed there.

And to be fair, the wiring in the house can limit data transmission depending on the age... Since the house was only just built it should be fine. But I also ask why there wasn't an ethernet jack installed in that room... Who knows.

If there's an ethernet jack on the upstairs floor, I'd try using the powerline adapter from that jack to your room and checking speed there.

Fine you want the PSU tier list? Have the PSU tier list: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-40-rev-103/

That's the trade-offs with power line. Since you're using your house electrical wiring as an Ethernet cable, you're at the mercy of how your house was wired up. Dramatic drops like that isn't uncommon. Sometimes mine outright does not get any data.

I personally didn't build the house. The person paying for, and building it, thought it wasn't necessary. I very much tried to get it to more rooms in the house.

I can't plug it into the adapter need to the router because it only has one port. I guess I just need to accept my 30/30 then.

If you can, try placing the power-line adapters on the same outlet and run a speed test. If that fixes it then you'll know the wiring is a problem. Also, why didn't you run Ethernet throughout the house?!?

That is a good idea and I wish I could do that. Sadly my house was built in 1930's so that is not gonna happen any time soon.
