First Build (Lowered Budget)

Go to solution Solved by Oswin,

build 1 will be enough to complete your goals

build 2 has a great upgrade path and would recommend you to take that

build 3..... i wont recommend to purchase a 6700 in this price-point

Well, i initially had 1600 saved up but had to use 700$ for an unexpected bill so now trying to get a build together for 900$ max. There are a few setups within said price range I have.

i5 6500 build

i5 6600k build

i7 6700 build

PC Goals

  • Streaming to twitch (lower end games such as League of Legends, CS:GO, Minecraft
  • 8+ hour days (might buy new cooler even for unlocked cpu's)
  • Ability to do minor editing (functional videos, not high end)

Additional Notes: I have 2 1tb hard drives, I would like the ability to play newer titles on atleast medium graphics but the main goal is the listed titles being streamed, functionality over looks, generaly want to shy away from overclocking as I live in a desert, 1920X1080p idealy running 2 monitors.

Any help choosing from the three would be appreciated. (If there are any glaring issues with the best choice mention so as well, but generaly happy with the graphics cards for what it's needed for)

I want to shy away from overclocking due to desert temperatures and lack of in house cooling, would build 2 still be recommended even if not overclocking?

I threw in build 3 because the motherboard + cpu price is comparable to the 6600k build without the overclocking worry plus the ability to run web browser, stream, game, music and skype with room to spare, is it still frowned upon in those settings?

Also, ty for the reply.

if you are not overclocking i think you should better off take the first build, the cpu would do you just fine plus the mobo supports crossfire (of course you need to go with amd cards at this point). if you dont watn to go to amd you could save the money to get a better gpu like a gtx1070

It almost sounds like this is a little overkill for you, I would suggest an i5 6500, and an rx 480 or maybe even the gtx 1060, those will run your games very well, and they are affordable, so you could spend some money on a good ssd, and whatnot.

Thank you very much, is there any recommended upgrades on the build within the 900$ budget?

(more ram, upgrading graphics card to the rx 480 listed in the other builds, better read/write ssd, a non-provided cpu fan better then the provided, better case, etc)

Honestly, I kinda feel like they're all lop sided builds.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Yea, would rather go a little overkill and know it will do what i need then do something like a 500$ mini-itx i3 build and be underpowered for what I need.

Could you please explain? I'm not looking for tripple a ultra 4k gameplay so from my limited knowledge these seem to be decent performance to dollar for the listed goals, but on that note my knowledge and experience on this topic is limited.

-16 gb is enough for the ram

-i would go for the rx 480 since you will benefit from the cheaper mobo that supports crossfire

-i dont care much about better read and write, if they are above 400mbps i would take it

-i would go for an aftermarket cooler since it will provide you better thermals on the cpu

-i wont upgrade the case, as long as it has good cable management spots and a affordable price. you are solid

I think you may be falling into the PC trap, I have an i5 4690k and an r9 290, those are old, and they were not that good now, and I can play games at 1080 at over 60fps on max, or I can bump up resolution to 1440, and it works really well. I also do video editing quite a lot, and I don't think you will notice if the theoretical cores aren't there. That being said, it's your choice

logical cores will offer you more performance than theoretical

So yeah, an i5 can literally do like anything you want, and it will do it well, the i7 is for someone who will do like Linus tech tips type editing, and the rx 480 or the gtx 1060 can play any game at 1080 at well over 60fps at the maximum settings. Like gta v at max 1080p getting like 70fps... So I think that streaming dota 2 wouldn't be that hard for it.
