Pc refuses to post with gpu

Matt_98

Hey everyone

I am helping a friend build his first pc using an old lenovo pc he got for free, we have gotten a new case, psu, ram and gpu but when we try to turn it on it just spins up all the fans and does nothing (there is no power going to the usb ports either) but when be take out the gpu and use  the igpu everything boots up fine. Any ideas anyone?

this might sound stupid, but are you sure the 460 is getting power? check if another pci-e slot works if you put the card in there.

It is getting power, the LED's on it light up fine (no other pci-e slot anyway):)

if your psu and gpu are fine then the only times I have the issue are as following

The bios is set to use the igpu and needs to be manually changed to use the pcie slot. I only have seen this on low end boards.

The pcie slot is borked.

CPU: Amd 7800X3D | GPU: AMD 7900XTX

I would agree but when the gpu is plugged in the usb ports dont work

Try setting the bios to use the pcie without the gpu plugged in.

Otherwise the pcie slot is definitely dead and is preventing the computer from even posting. Maybe a 8x or 4x gpu would work

That compare with a 460 I don't think there are any.

Would be better to just buy a new lga1155 motherboard. I assume itx?

You can find h61 boards for like $40USD used.

Have you tried the system without the gpu?
