Hey guys,

I plan to build PC for GPU rendering in Octane/ 3D work. I wanted to ask, that CPU 6800k (28 lanes) has enough PCI lanes to run GTX 1080 and GTX 680 without bottleneck? Or should I go with i7 6850k (40 lanes) instead? Here are my specs:

- CPU - i7 6800k
- CPU Cooling - Noctua NH-L9x65
- MOBO - ASUS X99 - A II ATX LGA2011-3
- RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 64GB DDR4 2400
- GPU - MSI GTX 1080 (for rendering in octane) and GTX 680 for system graphics. No SLI.
- SSD - Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
- HDD - 3x 3.5" 7200RPM
- Case - Corsair 300R
- PSU - Super Flower Leadex - 80Plus Gold - 750W

Thanks!

You can run SLI 1080s on a 6700K. You don't need X99 for 2 GPUS.

If you want X99, the 6800K will be just fine.

you can't run them both in the same system at the same time on the same program, can you?

You'll be fine, but approaching the limit. PCIe gen 3 16x vs 8x really isn't that big of a deal anyways

I dont want them to run in SLI. Gtx1080 will be only for rendering(Octane) and gtx680 for system graphics.

Doubtful, but they plan on using the older 680 as the primary system display's adapter anyways.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

You can just use integrated graphics for that m8. Besides, I'm pretty sure just running a monitor doesn't use up much GPU power at all (I could be wrong on this though)

Sorry I didn't precise. 680 will be also for photoshop 3d apps viewports and it's from my old pc so why not use it :)
