hd598+3.5mm mic works?

Has anyone had any experience using a 3.5 mic connector on their hd 598s? I have heard people talk about having to mod them and open up the insides to tweak to make the 3.5mm fit.
I am really trying to avoid opening my headphones for obvious reasons, however is that the only way to go about it if i want to use my V-moda boom pro 3.5mm with that headset?

You have to mod them to use those types of mics.
