PC Ports

Are PC Ports getting worse? I recently decided to build myself a high-end PC but the fact that Dishonored 2 came out with performance issues for PC has me a bit worried about the state of PC games. Keep in mind I'm a noob when it comes to PC (this is my first build) and I do have consoles, but I would rather play games on my powerful new PC than on the consoles.

I don't think ports are getting worse, Display port and the most recent HDMI can both carry 4k and USB is getting more and more universal. I think some companies skimp on PC ports in their devices, but on regular PCs there isn't anything wrong. Hopefully we are starting to phase out of DVI and VGA (those screws are so annoying, and I think moving to only Displayport or HDMI and USB for all purposes will be good.

There are sometimes screw ups, however the flak they get is overall pretty high and bad for publicity. So overall they try to do better. But it still happens sometimes.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

Uh no. One game doesn't negate ask the game that work. There are more good ports than there are bad ones. People just tend to remember the bad ones. When was the last time you turned on the news to see a story about a nice kid helping an old lady cross the street?

I thought you talk about ports (I/O) on the PC lol. What that has to do with games lol.

Not all games are bad. Take a look at The Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, GTA 5, BF1, BF3,4, and other games they are well optimized for PC.

True.

I wouldn't really list BF4 here, it was god aweful on launch and took like a year or more for them to get it up to shape.

just an example that not all games were ported from console but made/developed straight to pc.

except No Man's Sky...

Yea it's unfortunate the way some developers treat PC,  If only they could all be like the good developers like Blizzard for example Overwatch is one of the most polished games to come out in recent years and its because they took their time with it and got it right.

Actually, I think PC gaming is better than it's ever been before. The early days of the Xbox 360/PS3 were the dark ages; that's when it was really common for multiplatform games to have the same locked framerate/FOV/sometimes even resolution as the console versions. We may still get a few games that aren't particularly well optimized, but that's about as bad as it gets these days.

And dare I say, aside from the performance issues Dishonored 2 seems to have most of the proper features in place to make it a decent port.

The launch issues with BF4 had a lot more to do with network/server-side problems than the quality of the port or anything PC specific. In terms of tech and features, it was an excellent PC version, as DICE's games generally are.

Clearly you were on of the lucky then, I was one of the group people where the game wouldn't even run for would just crash for no reason after opening and nothing would fix it.  Just started working after a year or so when I heard they finally cleared up the issues, and this was a common problem for a lot of people.
