i5 4460 or i5 6400 or i3 6100?

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

I built 2x systems this week, both with i5 6400's and both with RX 470's.

I installed 20 games, all at Ultra/Max settings, only a SINGLE game, didn't see 100% GPU usage due to a CPU bottleneck (Witcher 3 (Ultra) in CITY it tanks to around 50fps with lowered GPU usages, Other Areas are Fine at 55-70fps)

All other games...

Alien-Isolation / AssassinsCreed Syndicate & Unity / FC3 & FC4 / Tombraider 2014 / Lichdom Battlemage / Project Card / Sleeping Dogs / Shadow of Mordor

Amongst some other lesser known titles....

All ran at maximum details just fine (easy on the RX470) and I never once found the i5 6400 to be an issue. (Base 2.7Ghz, Turbo 3.3Ghz, Gaming usually is 3.0Ghz-3.1Ghz)

I am running a i3 2100, 8gb ram & gtx 750TI. I am looking for a upgrade within a budget.

I can either buy i5 4460+ mobo & re-use the ram

Or i3 6100 with mobo+ ddr4 ram

If i want to buy the i5 6400 i have to borrow from other people because of budget & I'm shy of that.

I'm more leaned towards the i5 4460. Please give me your valuable opinion

4460 for two reasons: The CPU is still great for today, and owing money to people is an awful situation to be in.

4460, performs within spitting distance of the 6400 and much better than the dual-core i3

will the ddr4 vs ddr3 be much of a difference in years to come? also i heard kaby lake is coming so do old cpu prices decrease when new one comes or stays the same?

and its worse when owing to parents Lol.... I was just worried about the motherboards because sandy bridge and ivy bridge had same sockets so there were tons of mobos and skylake, kaby lake will  have same socket too however haswell is alone here...i dont want to face the trouble im facing right now with 1155 mobos..they are so rare

What is your budget on a motherboard?

What's your current mobo ? Why can't you use that ?

All of the listed CPUs in the OP use a different socket than the 2100.

How many storage drives do you have currently? What about future upgrades?

Where? I added one of the motherboards to my cart and it doesn't show up. Is it something that can be verified?

I dunno if black friday is a thing in India, but try and wait for that, i grabbed last year an Asrock Z97 Anniversary motherboard for the price of a Asus H81 motherboard, its an idea :p.

And no Black Friday is not a thing is India nor are Christmas sales very gr8. Also he JUST missed the major Indian sales at the end of October
