Well, do you need a new one? Is the 960 struggling in games you play? And what's your CPU? It may bottleneck a new GPU, which would constitute you waiting and saving to upgrade both.

I don't necessarily need a new one. But I would like to buy an HTC Vive in April sometimes. And when I did the HTC test it said my CPU and graphics card might not handle it.

Also my bad I forgot to include my build (I upgraded to a 290 GB SSD)

Your CPU should be just fine for VR. The GPU probably not. But you should be good to upgrade to a 1070 or anything below. If you want to pick up a Vive you definitely will want a new card.

I'd recommend you to get rid of that 960 before people realize it can't handle the "Console-Refresh-Era".

Dishonored 2 already asks for a 1060 to even run decently on Very Low. (In it's current state is an optimization issue more like a GPU lack of horsepower, but you can expect it to happen more and more with newer games).

The vibe is a dead end in it's current state. I personally wouldn't touch that kind of hardware until i have at least a handful of games that i want to play.

IMHO, it's better to keep your pc up to date when possible. The ideal thing to do is skip one generation, but the jump in this case is worth two generations. Lets remember that 660 to 760 and 760 to 960 was a small jump in performance. The difference between 960 and 1060 is day and night. Also, selling your 960 should give you at least 50% of the cost. So you can still have some savings at the end of the day. (I wouldn't go for a 1070 with an i5, so i won't recommend it to you). Pick a nice 1060 Stix that thing is amazing.

Good luck!

Thanks, would it bad to spend the extra money on the 1070? Is it because it would bootleg my i5? Also which company for the card?

Can the 1060 run HTC Vive? And most triple a games?

Also, what about a new CPU for a few hundred dollars?

There are no games for the vive, and probably there won't be a lot for at least 2 more years. The VR thing is at a premium cost that no one cares to develop for it. Once it gets a few titles i strongly believe you will need a change of GPU whatsoever. No matter 1060, 1070 or 1080.

Officially Vive recomends an i5 similar to what you have and a 970, but technically it won't suffice. Vive is a closer to 1440p than 1080p, and 970 in 1440p can't handle 60fps in most new titles. That is a 1070/1080 terrain... but still you cant play anything in that thing right now. When games start to come out for it, expect performance to be poop. Optimization comes with a lot of work, time and effort many developers won't put in it until several dollars are earned.

And in cpu regards, you could sell your cpu and aim for a 4790 (K if your motherboard supports OC, otherwise, non-k is "ok" :P). I wouldn't do it though until Kaby comes out and prices are adjusted accordingly.

In short: Want to spend money? shoot a 1060 6G today, it's cost effective and you keep most of your savings until kaby refresh to consider the platform jump.

What to deplete your savings? Go 1070 and i7 4790K or non-k if you won't overclock (and at least an Hyper 212EVO for cooling, the stock cooler sucks ass).

LGA1150, I was looking at the Intel Core i5 6500 3.20GHZ Quad Core Skylake processor. Compared to my  Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor

i5 6500 can't go on 1150 socket and it is like 10% of a upgrade compared to your cpu. You should go with i7 or stay with your cpu

I found this Intel Core I7 4790K Devil's Canyon 4 GHz Seems to me to be a good upgrade just because of the difference in GHz

Looks like I'm a little late to the party.

Honestly I wouldn't waste money on a new socket mobo. For now If I was you, I would get either a 1060 which can run most games on high or ultra at 60 fps, and if you have the money a 1070 as for a game like dishonored 2 it's going to help a lot.

I would also say get a 4690k if possible or a 4790k. The 4790k still has the best single core performance to this day and with that CPU/GPU you wont have any bottlenecks with nearly any game.
