Building a 800€ (~850USD) PC. What do you think of this?

Go to solution Solved by TheRandomness,

Replace the 8350 with a i5-6500 or so and get a really cheap B150/H110/H170 motherboard and you'll get more performance in most games nowadays. Also, it's cheaper to get a single 16GB kit of RAM. Another thing, get a decent PSU from tiers 1 to 3 on this list:

Hey guys!

I'm building this for someone else. I have max 1000€ to work with, of which I need to spend about 150-200€ on a Monitor, which leaves me with 800€ for the PC. I'm aiming at pulling out the best performance for this budget, looks are a tertiary concern.

What do you think about this?

If theres something left, a SSD would fit in nice.

PS: This build is around 780€ in my "local" online shop.

No AMD processors allowed until Zen comes out. They have garbage single thread performance and bottleneck basically all of the newer GPUs.

Get an i5 6500 with H170/B150 mobo and DDR4. That PSU isn't the best either. What country are you in?

Here is a list with a better proccesor, boot SSD and it's cheaper. Also, removed the aftermarket cooler because the stock one is fine since you can't overclock. Don't know why people are hating on Be Quiet PSUs, they are a pretty good brand but I changed it to Corsair anyways.

On that note, you would recommend going with a Nvidia card on this budget?

Yes, you can afford a GTX 1060 6 GB at this kind of budget.

The 1060 3gb is cheaper, more powerful and just all around a better choice.

Ok, and I do have a i5 4590 lying around. How does it compare to the i5 6500?

Use it, don't waste your money on a new proccesor. Do you have a mobo for it?

The brand a PSU does not make. That specific model isn't great

it's not as clear cut as you'd like to think. The 1060 beats the 480, but the 480 beats the 3GB version

3 GB beats the 480 in some benchmarks, others it's about equal. Either way, the 480 isn't worth the extra, heat, power consumption and money. 6GB is just a waste of money, $50 more for a 2% power difference and VRAM that doesn't matter unless your playing on 4k.

The extra VRAM does matter even for 1080p.

And I believe the 1060 3 GB model has less cores.

I've never seen my VRAM usage go above 2 GB while playing any modern game at 1080p.

It does have less CUDA cores which ends up making the 6GB 2-3% faster than the 3 GB. Not worth $50.

Oh it will go above 4 GB in plenty of games. What games are you talking about and what GPU?

GTX 1070 playing Dirt Rally, Ark Survival Evolved, Titanfall 1&2, and Forza Horizon Series. Maybe I just don't play games that use much VRAM, but Dirt Rally and Titanfall 2 are pretty new titles and Ark is notorious for not being optimized. I play other games of course, but they aren't that hard to run so I didn't bother listing them.

Here's a build with a monitor. Had to sacrifice some screen size to make the budget. Monitor is 21.5" in w/ Freesync. If you want to, you can get a 27" monitor and get an 4GB RX 480.

Fire up other games like GTA V, Witcher 3 and you will see RAM usage go up.
