Recently, I updated my BIOS for my laptop as I noticed it wasn't updated since I bought it (about a year ago). After it was updated, I'm getting 20-35 fps on CS:GO which I usually get 60+ on. I have tried a system restore - I know this doesn't affect the BIOS but I hoped it would've reverted something that I might've done wrong.

This is the BIOS that appears on msinfo32.exe. I downloaded the BIOS update from the HP website and it is the latest one (my laptop is HP).

Should you need it, my laptop model is the HP Envy 15 ae065sa.

Other Specs:

64 bit Windows 10 (it came with the laptop)

i5 5200u @ 2.2 GHz

Nvidia GT 940m

8 GB RAM

1920 x 1080 Laptop Monitor

Nvidia Control Panel does have the global setting as the 940m and settings like "prefer maximum performance".

I'm not really sure what to do. The 940m is more than capable of light gaming but I can't play CS:GO at playable fps and Minecraft is also lower than before.

If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Check that you are actually using your Nvidia GPU and not the integrated Intel GPU.

Also try reinstalling the grafics driver using DDU.

If its running on the Nvidia chip try installing the old BIOS back to your System. Why update the BIOS in the first place if there is no update that would benefit you? (like working hotkeys/backlight control for newer versions of Windows, fixing critital bugs or the setting to swap the F-Keys like on Lenovo notebooks that was patched with a newer BIOS)

Don't install the older BIOS if you actually have a valid reason why you need the new version.

Hi, thanks for replying.

I'm sure that Minecraft is running on the 940m as it shows it when pressing F3. I'm not sure how to check if other games are running on the 940m as they are on Steam. Nvidia Control Panel says that games are using the 940m. I updated it because I thought, as with gpu drivers etc, I'd need to update it. Also, when you say try installing the old bios, I'm not sure how (not the biggest tech whizz). I believe the old BIOS was f.02 when I checked the msinfo32.exe

Thanks
