980 Ti or 1070?

SGM

My current 290X's (which I bought for 4K gaming about 3 years ago) are getting a bit long in the tooth and struggle to run some games at 4K 60FPS without turning down some settings or dropping the resolution. Not only that but not every game supports CrossFire which doesn't help.

Essentially I'm looking for a single powerful card somewhere between £300 and £400 and I can pick up either a 980 Ti or a 1070 for similar prices.

The question is, which is better? I'll mainly be playing games like DOOM, Dishonoured 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda (when it comes out) and a heavily modded Skyrim SE (lots of graphical mods, lol).

I could stretch to a 1080 but it's quite a big jump in price.

If the price is the same, go for the newer one (aka 1070).

If you can get the 980ti cheaper (which you most likely can), then get that, since the performance is pretty much the same.

If you really want to play 4K then I'd say stretch for a 1080

Otherwise 1070 at 4K medium-low settings

I'd personally go for the 1070, the newer architecture, lower power draw, higher overclock-ability an also the newer aftermarket designs make it an all-round better card. The performance is the same but you should also look at driver support, game optimization and also cooling and overclocking

1070 it is then. Newer, similar price and performance. Might get the 1080, depends on a few other things I need to save for and if not it's baby brother will do just fine, lol.

Thanks.

1080 is not good price to performance but if you get the cash go for it
