Intel HD 2500 Upgrade

toastythomas

I'm looking to upgrade an old HP HTPC that I picked up. It has a nice Ivy Bridge i5. That's not the issue. It still uses Intel HD 2500. I'm having trouble deciding between the HD 5450 (passive cooled) and the GT 730 (passive cooled). The 730 is double the price and I am willing to spend that much if it means I'll be able to run a lot of newer games. Currently, I cannot even run CS:GO at a playable framerate.

Don't get either one.  Get yourself a R5-250/350

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Maybe something by ZOTAC or ASUS? They make good cards for a low price, best of luck to ya!

At that price range your options are limited.

Though you might find more luck with used GPU's on ebay, provided you're comfortable buying used. Could find lower prices that way, potentially, if money is tight.

That video doesn't apply to on-board graphics that are that bad. Intel HD 2500 is equivalent to a GeForce 210 / Radeon HD 3470

No, the video applyied to shitty sub $100 new dedicated gpus like the gt 730, anything under $100 you should look for a used card.

If you are looking at gaming at 1080p on a low profile card that really isn't going to be enjoyable at all, I would say get a full height case, and a decent gpu.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

I will look for a used card, thanks dude. The problem with a full size case is that I have a proprietary PSU, mobo, and CPU cooler.

It applies to ALL video cards...  Period.  If you get the 730 or the 5450 you'll never be able to get even 30fps.  It would be a total and complete waist of money.

Oops. I got the 730. Although my reasoning was tat it was only $35 used and I know after looking at some benchmarks that it will perform about the same at the Intel HD 550. That's the performance level I want out of this.
