Black screen on sleep wake up

So my pc was working fine until last month where every now and then after I leave my pc alone for a while the screns turns off (regular sleep so far so good) but when I move my mouse the screen would turn on but it would be black . Nothing I clicked would make it return to normal . The only way to get over this is the use the sleep shortcut on my keyboard where the pc hibernates and then I can turn it back on with no problem . This now happens everytime my pc sleeps . My drivers are mostly up to date and when it started they were up to date . I remember this happening in one of my  old systems and I would turn on " Repost Video on S3 Resume" on the bios and it would fix it but my current bios don't have that option . Hi!

 

What model is your PSU? It might not have support for the low power states that Haswell and later CPUs will go to when the computer enters sleep, so what would happen is the computer goes to sleep, then the PSU can't see any load and turns itself off (not fully, it goes to standby) as if the computer was off.

 

PSUs that can recognise these power states are called Haswell-ready.

True that. Hmm, I would start by clearing CMOS, but other than that I'm not too familiar with this issue if it's not because a PSU that's not Haswell ready.

Have you looked at the latest updates that have been installed since this problem has been happening and verified that it is not due to a buggy windows update? Most problems like this that come out of nowhere usually are caused by a crappy windows update. Look into the recent updates that have happened around when this started to happen.

So much for that.... It is usually the #1 cause. If this was a new build I would have a lot of suggestions but as it is a tried and true system with no problem with the power management until recently. Have you made any changes around that time frame in the bios?

Nope non of that either . I am pretty desperate at this point . I didn't install anything besides skype around the time and I already uninstalled it just to check . I have no idea what to check anymore . It would be a huge pain to reinstall windows since this also doubles as a work pc most of the time .

Do you have to use hibernation?

Looks like all that you are doing is turning off the monitor, not entering the sleep mode. That is really weird. I would expect the problem to happen if your monitor power off and sleep times were the same. That is not the case. Any screensaver?

You would be better off with the sleep function enabled and the hibernation disabled if possible. It does use a little more power though. It would cause less "wake up problems". This is not really a fix for it, it just will circumvent the current issue that you are having.

Just make sure that your sleep mode is set to "go to sleep" prior to hibernate.
