Upgrading my i5 2500k to i7 4770k.

Hey,

I just want to know what you guys think. I'm pretty much only gaming. My 2500k is running on 4.5Ghz, but from what I know most 4770k can do 4.5Ghz as well. I would probably keep this cpu for 2-3 years, so I don't really care about dead socket. And yes, I know I need to get a new motherboard as well, but mobo + this cpu for 200 cad (150 usd).

Cheers.

If you are upgrading from very old, why upgrade to something slightly less old.

Get a 6600K, Asus Z170-A and some nice new DDR4.

Because 200 cad (and I can still sell my old mobo and cpu ). I would have to pay +700 for 6600k setup

200 cad seem to be a nice price, I sold my i5 4670K for 165€ some months ago .... so yeah (btw my i5 4670K got a nice 4,6GHz so as long as you can cool it you should be able to get 4,5 GHz)

The upgrade may not be needed but the price is good and if you can affort it I think you should go for it. should be a nice 10-15% performance boost I guess.

holy hell 150 usd?. I'm using the same chip and for gaming I'll still have a few years more to go honestly. It's a good price if that's the case.

since when could most 4770K do 4.5ghz :P they are all crap. tbh i think you are better of getting a 2600K or 2700K then you dont have to change mobo as well.

@Jumper118 I read an article which said that 70% of 4770k can do 4.5Ghz. I guess that was bs.

yes i would think so. most do 4.3ghz ish, they are really bad because of the vrm on the cpu and the worst thermal paste ever between the die and ihs. a 4790K overclocks better.

Indeed, mine cant even boost to 3.9 on all cores/threads no matter what voltage i push trough it

Let's agree to disagree

it still overclocks like poo

the super ironic bit of this argument is that mine does 5ghz on a tad over 1.3v lolz

Maybe but he still can assume to reach a 4,3-4,6 multiplyer, yes the Haswell's espacially the IX-4X70 are hot CPU's but it's still a very good offer and a nice little upgrade.

For me the overclock was fine 1,275v 4,4Ghz was no problem and 4,6 the best I could get that runs "stable" .I run only 4,4 GHz most of the time because of powerusage and 80ish temps  (after delid)

either get a 2700k for the cheap or a 4790k/6700k.

i5 6600k won't be as worthwhile upgrade if you a
