Am I Missing something here (GPU pricing)

I currently have the 970 which i bought for around 350ish around april of this year, and was looking at my past purchase history to find something else and i was curious on how much my 970 was selling for now. To my surprise it was almost double what i paid for it and from what i can remember i may have gotten it at a sale price but it wasn't originally $600

Little availability? There cant be much demand for them with the introduction for the 480 and 1060 (At least there shouldn't be).

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

They aren't selling that much used! Not even close!

The green prices are the ones that sold, black or red did not sell.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

There is very little supply, thats why they are marked up so much.

True and i mean there is no need for anyone to buy it now anyway since the 10 series is better in performance and is still being made lol

Ex-retail worker here. The reasons for this are several-fold.

Firstly, The store might be keeping stock for warranty cases. There's a two-three year period when they might be required to swap a unit for a customer and by selling cheap now and not having stock then would be a dumb move. I understand US retailers might not be bound by anything like this but in EU it's the seller that's responsible for direct customer service, not the manufacturer or importer.

Secondly, who's to say they're not at or near their purchase price already. Going below that is crucial if you need the shelf space but if not, there's no need. Just sit and wait.

Thirdly, the prices often adjust automatically or in groups but this kind of lonely product that gets left behind gets left outside the automatic price handler and simply gets forgotten. (You might want to ask them if they'd sell if for cheaper.)

Fourthly the supply/demand that others mentioned is somewhat true. It's not that smart for consumer business (on a single product scale) but the seller may be expecting one more huge deal from a company nearby. Say, a local school might be upgrading their GPUs. You'd really want to sell those hundred and fifty units for twice the price.

Fiftly and lastly for what I can think of, the Christmas/End-of-the-year clearances are only coming up. They'll probably lower the price for that. It just looks better to go down to $300 or whatever from $500 rather than $320.
