Hello,

Please post some pcpartpicker lists down below that are below $1000 NZD (New Zealand Dollar).

Thanks.

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/

Ok so i know this is over $1000 but there are a lot of sales coming up and this build could come very close to $1000 before xmas. But this list is purchased from separate places so shipping will need to be added. It would be better to get it all from one place a pay one shipping charge and its also better for dealing with warranties. Use the lists posted here as a base then go to one of the better retailers like computer lounge and pb tech and try to get as close to the lists provided (i5 and 470 seems to be what you'll get for $1000). If you are unsure about a part you have selected post on here or do some googling.

Which retailers do you prefer if any?

the cheapest retailers in NZ are pbtech.co.nz, ascent.co.nz, techworld.co.nz

I wouldn't mind knowing if there are others

I wouldn't know how to get that any lower unless you wanted to turn the i5 into an i3, or the rx470 into a rx460.

You could turn the 1x8gb into a 2x4gb set of ram, but that doesn't leave you room for anything else if you want 16gb.

It's pretty hard to get something capable for under $1000 in NZ.(unless you go second hand, even then things are overpriced) I'd normally recommend waiting and saving an extra $500 as it will go a long way

Agreed. A partlist at 1500$ lets me add a 6600k, an RX480 8gb, and a 120gb SSD. http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/KQwTr7

the 6600k may not be suited for the rx480 but it does provide a bit of perspective.

When you consider the 1060 starts at around $350, the 1070 goes around $650 and the 1080 goes for over $1000. Theres 1/3 your budget for the low end card and over half for medium card. not much left afterward. Not for gaming anyway. Thats why I think you should consider the AMD A10 with a AMD GPU if you really want a computer now for under $1000 that can play modern games. It won't be the best but it will be the best within your budget.

at least wait until next year when AMD ZEN comes out. You might end up with a 2X better machine.

I stand corrected. My brother bought a 6700K, and didn't come with a heatsink and I checked the 6500/6600 and it it said nothing about a heatsink and fan on 2 sites. thought it was a skylake thing to not include them.

As for a system, nothing i selected was even close to $1000 so i gave up. Personally, I would rather wait than compromise.

while the 6400-6500 do include a cooler, they have full aluminium heatsinks, instead of a copper center and aluminium fins. they perform about 10c higher than regular haswell stock coolers.
