Hello all,

I recently installed a full network camera security system in a daycare. I terminated all of the cameras in the 568A pairing (WG,G,WO,B,WB,O,WBr, BR) but when I terminate the other end to the patch panel in the 568/A config on the panel, it will only give me a PoE light and no activity LED. Same thing happens if I use a keystone jack. But, if I put a regular crimp connector on it, it works fine.

What is the problem with this? I cannot figure it out at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried testing with another utility such as a laptop other than the cameras on camera side? Im guessing you have proper tools that can check to make sure there are no breaks in the wire.. That is really odd, what type of cable did you use for your runs? Are the cameras preconfigured, what are the switch configs like? Does the Active LED come up when theres a laptop plugged in? Sounds like a switch problem to me.

I broke my cable tester, I plugged it up to the PoE on the switch and quickly found out it was not a PoE tester... Yes I get an activity light on the switch when I plug in my laptop. Like literally, the color and color/whites are opposites. When I connect the ohm meter to blue on one end and then find which one it corresponds to on the keystone side with a crimp plugged into it, it connects to bluewhite. Same for all of the others. BTW I am using a Dell Powerconnect 3448P.

Most patch panels and keystones I have seen have their own color code printed right on them to tell you where each wire should go for either 568A or 568B. They tend to have their own internal wiring scheme for how the copper connects from the punch block to the female RJ45. Make sure you are following the color code on it, instead of your memorized order.
