Do you think it would be plausible to create a DIY laptop backpack vr machine, using a regular old backpack to hold the laptop, and using a battery such as this one https://www.amazon.com/ChargeTech-Portable-Universal-External-Photography/dp/B01F6MGNIE, to power the vive? Or will the battery provide problems in powering or maybe heat for the laptop within the backpack will cause issues?

the laptop will overheat, it needs fresh air and it needs to be able to get rid of the hot air, so no you cannot use a regular old backpack, you would have to do something like what luke did.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

How about the battery, will that be a viable solution to power the vive? I noticed that luke did not touch on this in the video unless I missed something

don't know, I have no idea about how much power the vive needs

One last thing, do you know of any product anything like what he was using? Except maybe more of a normal backpack type thing except more open for airflow, I've looked into the auros b1, which is perfect, but can't seem to find where to buy it

no, but I think the same type of hiking backpack as he is using would be a better option, nothing that would block air or very little at least and super high quality.

What laptop are you planning on using?

well there is some problems with it. As you can see on the left side of this pic, the heatpipe goes over/touching the WLAN card, that is not a good thing.

Why would they sell it if they knew of this problem is what I don't understand. Does the 15 inch version of this model have the problem as well?

What about something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-ZR450-Mesh-Backpack/dp/B0049H8UVQ, it even has a convenient pouch for the battery on the back, it gives plenty of room for airflow

The thing is we don't know the long term impacts. We had @Dark test out the PCH temps for the GS63VR and while high they seemed fine. At this point I don't know long term. But for now it's still small. With CLU repaste it'll probably run within limits.

*I tested temps on the GS73VR.

I'm tempted to open it back up and inspect the heatpipe coverage over the PCH (curious if a copper shim is possible).

What I fail to understand is why they went the route of partial coverage on the GS73/63/43.  It looks intentional.

This is what I thought too. But for all other laptops the PCH is just laid bare and nothing was needed to cool it.

All i want to know is if i put said laptop into a bag such as this one  https://www.amazon.com/ASICS-ZR450-Mesh-Backpack/dp/B0049H8UVQ, for a good 1 or 2 hours of gametime, to create a vr backpack machine, will the heat be an issue? Considering its mesh and allows airflow i think it should be fine???

LOL as long as its a good laptop. Some laptoptrash like Razer Blades get their screens destroyed from heat after having the lid closed and running external monitors. It's actually pretty funny that your screen can be fucked.

I'd be more concerned about battery life.

Thermals would likely be okay as long as you allowed for adequate spacing near in the intake/exhaust for the fans.

Do you guys know if a battery such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0116BX968/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1F1J38XKJUKUY&coliid=I2VLPQY454C1VW ,would be adequate for powering the htc vive through the link box? Because at this point thats the only problem i might end up having

No.

Built-in AC outlet will power any standard electric device *UP TO 85W*

IIRC, the GS43VR is either a 180W or 150W brick.

Wait are we talking about powering the actual vive itself? Ya know through the link box, the laptop battery situation i can deal with later
