Headphone recommendation ($100-$300)

PiTT

My Audio-technica ATH-M50 has bitten the dust. I liked the bass response of these headphones, but I'm looking for a different pair since these are pretty uncomfortable for long periods of listening. I mainly used these for listening to music and gaming. Does anyone have any recommendations for headphones in the $100 to $300 price range? I am willing to trying an open-backed headphone, although I've liked being able to get rid of background noise. I'm currently leaning towards the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro or DT990 Premium. I will also be driving it off of a Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card.

Look at Sennheiser. they make good headphones too. the only problem is that I only had Beats and Turtlebeaches, so I have no first hand experience. Just look at reviews online and use your best judgement.

I have no desire to get Beats. I've tried them on in stores, and they don't do much for me.

The DT990s perform quite well, even on my motherboard's audio. They're comfortable, will fit any size head (and any ear size, the ear cups are massive) and stay on your head (I can flip my head upside-down and they will stay on), and they look quite nice in my opinion. I have had no problems with them other than getting a little bit warm where the headphones are in contrast to my very cold house. I'm sure there are better options by $300, but I am not as informed on that as well as someone like @SSL.

HD600/650. The HD650 sound quite good with the Xonar Essence STX.

I second Cloud II, I was thinking of getting those but went with Logitech Artemis G933 which work nice but I feel as though I would have been better off getting the Cloud II and saving some money.

Is there a large difference between the 600 and 650? There's a pretty big price difference.

The 600 has more of a neutral sound too it whilst the 650 are more dark if I remember correctly.

Pretty much this. I personally prefer the HD650, but the HD600 is what many people prefer.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go with the DT770 pro. I'll see how that sounds. Maybe in the future I'll grab the HD650. I did see massdrop now has a version of the 650 for $200.
