Thunderbolt Display with GPU?

cangath

Do you think we'll ever see a display with an embedded GPU. After that apple event i was more disappointed that this wasn't released than i was with the macbook pro. Do you think a company like asus would create something like this? They make both screens and gpus.

Everything is possible. But when how will you upgrade the GPU if it uses a mobile GPU? There need to be a standard, and there isn't really one. There is MXM, but that changes every now and then. Also, this would increase monitor cost substantially. Nvidia G-Sync and true 8-bit color panels are both premium priced monitors, and they don't sell well, due to cost.

And then you have the same problem as Razer which is system compatibility

i dont really mind it being non-upgradable. G-sync monitors do have a huge price jump however freesync is quite cheap. Enough to get a rx480 and a 4k monitor under $700. Of Course this doesn't include the razer cores technology, but combination of the 3 and a razor blade stealth would come out lower than the new surface studio.

G-Sync requires internal hardware. FreeSync doesn't really. So if 200$ more is costly.... imagine with a dGPU inside. It might be ~300$ just for the R&D, support, and hardware inside, additional PSU, all without the actual dedicated GPU inside, where you need to buy that as extra. And that is at best.
