I'm building a new budget gaming pc but i can't decide on a GPU

my current options are:

MSI Radeon RX 480 Gaming X 8GB )$432 USD rough estimate)

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Armor OC 6GB ($325 USD rough estimate)

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 Turbo 6GB ($294 USD rough estimate)

any other suggestions around the same price point are good too.

thanks.

RX 480 is very overpriced at the moment. I suggest you get the 1060. You can also watch this video:

Out of those options the 480 is hands down the best performer, but you could consider looking last gen for a better bang to buck ratio? The 970 is a really good deal for what it gives you. Maybe even a 980 if you're looking at the mid 400s. Depend if you prefer green or red really.

You can find cheaper GTX 1060s and RX 480s in Australia if you don't limit yourself to one store:

I'd suggest you go with the GTX 1060 6GB since it is much, much cheaper than the RX 480 and it will also run cooler and draw less power than the RX 480. :)

The 1060 6GB are the better performers over the 480, so with that price don't even consider it.

Would go MSI armor over the turbo. Armor has better cooler allthough it's not as good as the gaming variants. You can also check EVGA with ACX 3.0 coolers if it fits your pricerange. If you can get one of those (not single fan btw) I would recommend that.

Nope, thats not how you should compare different types of GPU. Only good if it's same type like 2 480s orso.

Np mon. For the Vram there is only one thing that is very important: aslong as you have enough you are good to go. Currently 3-4 is overall regarded as minimum for Triple A titles. Above that is a nice extra, but for performance it is more like the story with normal RAM where 8 or 16 for most situations overall make not much difference, unless with specific loads and run into troubles of shortage. For GPU however the performance depends way more on how efficient the used architecture is. If this is good enough then it shoudl all be in balance for 99% of the situations.

In this case that you run into shortage for GPU's it's better then to take a better card. This since the situations where these cards Vram would not be sufficient, is overall because the GPU isn't fast enough for your demands anyway. Think high resolutions for example or games that run way more graphics stuff then normally intended because of mods (what is more because of users doing).
