Shovel Knight platform?

TheBestUserName

I'm interested in trying out Shovel Knight, and I'm also interested in opinions on which is the preferred platform.

I suppose good recommendations would come from any one that has played it on multiple systems.

Systems I have where it's available:

PlayStation (3,4,Vita)

3DS

Wii U

Steam

Clearly this has retro-style graphics so that won't change/improve based on the platform, but maybe things like bundled content or additional (DLC) content would make a difference...   or maybe controls and display (PS4 touch pad, 3DS/Wii U touch screen, dual screens on 3DS, etc)

The price isn't a concern.  I say that because I know right now it's about $5 cheaper on Steam.

Does any one have an opinion based on first-hand experience?

Personally, I prefer the PC version since I can use the SNES controller. The WiiU isn't bad either, but I'd assume that the PS version would beat it thanks to the d-pad being in a more favorable position.

Every version except the PC version has something unique about it.

Wii U: Amiibo Support, in-game messages via MiiVerse, co-op multiplayer

3DS: Amiibo Support, Streetpass arena

PS: Kratos Stage

XBox: Battletoads Stage

I have the 3DS and Wii U versions and it suits the 3DS better IMO.

I had forgotten about the Shovel Knight Amiibo.  I actually have it already. :)

It slipped my mind because I collect them, and I've probably got 70 of them.  Lost in the chaos I suppose.

Thanks for the reminder. I think I'll get it on 3DS. I might see about finding a physical copy.

To be fair the Amiibo doesn't add a lot. It basically gives you a second game mode where instead of building up your character you're building up your Amiibo. There are some additional upgrades exclusive to the Amiibo but it's all saved to the Amiibo so you can carry it across games. But really, that's not why you get the Amiibo.

Amiibos belong in a museum.

I told my son about my intention to buy Shovel Knight. He suggested the Wii U version because of multiplayer. That's what I ended up getting.

I might actually end up getting the 3DS version in the future, though, depending on how much I like it.

But I've only played one level so far because while I was at GameStop, I also got Yoshi's Wooly World. I'm on world 2-3. It's addicting.  The progression of difficultly is pretty good too. It starts out easy, but the challenge increase is noticeable. I like it.

Maybe. But I like them. :)

I don't collect a lot of things. So this is one of my indulgences.

I like them as well but I can only pick up two at a time when I'm with my wife.

I try to limit myself to getting just the Amiibos I really want. Somehow that has still turned into a shelf full of them.....
