Hey there, my mum has some problems with her almost 5 years old PC, and while I am looking for way to fix the issues, I am thinking about building her a new PC for Christmas. It will be used for management stuff in Word and Excel and also as a storage for photos and such, so we will need USB 3.0. I am leaning towards 1150 socket for compatibility with my build. Also I want to eliminate the annoying elements with the current PC, it's pretty slow and loud as a mower.

This is the current build:

AMD Athlon64 II X2 5600+ AM2 socket

MSI "Neo" series board

3GB DDR2 RAM

HD4350

320GB WD Blue HDD

generic 400W PSU and case

This is what I plan to build, I won't use PCPartPicker because a lot of stuff isn't there, I will put links to the shop where I am getting it.

We don't have a set budget but want to keep it under €450 and prefferably around €400.

Thing is that it's probably the failing part in the old PC :D

Yes, nothing extreme, as far as I've seen her working she just makes timetables and charts for the employees and also works trough remote desktop.

I dunno if an office PC needs so much sotrage. :D I mean a couple .docx files? xD

So bigger SSD without HDD (maybe just external SSD, if needed) could be an option.

I said that it will be also used for dumping photos.

Looks nice, tough I wanted this to be 1150 socket, just so I can switch the parts if there is any problem. Also I don't think there is any need to get a 120GB SSD - on the PC itself there will be just Win7, browsers and MS office installed, and a few documents. Also I'd like the case to be quiet since it's right next to your head, and Antec PSUs aren't available here.

That case is very quite, go for an AMD APU so you do not need to get a GPU and you can switch it out if you ever need to also, the SSD is almost the same price as the one you posted so why not? Just get any 300-400w psu that is a name brand...

Which again could be done externally. That way you can view them somehwere else easily. But if you don't have an external drive already, it doesn't matter what you get.

An external drive is just extra money wasted, he can get a usb flash drive if he really needs to transfer..

also, its one more place for a failure.

OK I might consider the case, Pentium has a nice iGPU that will be enough and I can allways choke in my i5 in there if there is any problem with my build. I've found a similiary priced Kingston V300 120GB SSD so I'll get that. I will go for the CX430M because it's the cheapest modular PSU available here.

An internal dive is just extra money wasted, a small usb drive will not suffice if he really needs to transfer.

Also it's one more place to failure.

See where i am going? The pictures will occupy the same space whether they're inside or outside of his PC.

who cares...

Yeah but what I am saying is that if the external drive is having something transferred to it and it gets knocked over then it could go totally corrupt
