So as my last computer is 8 years old, I've had enough and decided to put together a new rig for gaming, some rendering and for photoshop. So what I want to know your thoughts about it.

Motherboard : Asus Z77 Sabertooth

CPU : Intel i5 3570K

GPU : Evga GTX 670 FTW

RAM : Patriot ViperX 3RD 2x4GB 2133MHz

Cooling : H100i w. Silverstone Air Penetrator White LED

Storage : 120GB Samsung 840 and 2TB WD Green

PSU : Seasonic P Series Modular 760W 92+

Case : CM Storm Stryker or Corsair Graphite 600T White

And peripherals.

Mice : Corsair M65

Keyboard : CM Storm Quickfire TK with Cherry MX Brown's

Hoping to get it all ordered within this week.

Also, is it a good idea to paint the Sabertooth's thermal armor? As I'm planning for a full white with some black build.

Thanks, Karl.

Well first of all what are you going to be doing with this computer? Gaming, Rendering, Editing ect. and If you think you want to really paint the thermal armor on the Sabertooth by all means do it because you can definitely take it off and paint it, just know what you are doing. Also like iTonyy Green drives are slow if anything get a Caviar Blue or the Seagate competitor (not well educated in Seagate). I have the Corsair M60 and I'm not sure the full differences from the newer version but by all means GET IT, IT IS AMAZING...for gaming of course. I also have the CM Storm Quickfire I love it but I do wish it had a backlit keyboard. Also the Samsung 840, again gaming go for the 830 or 840 Pro they perform a bit better.

Ugh... with the 840 you aren't going to notice real word differences between that and the 830 and the 840 pro, I have no idea what people are talking about. Yes synthetic benchmarks it isn't as good, but real-word performance between SSDs isn't as great and people think.

For rending you would really benefit from hypterthreading with a 3770k, I know it's a lot more money, it just depends on how much your time is worth to you.

The green drive is perfectly fine for a STORAGE drive, which it looks to be what you are using it for. So that's all good.

Thanks for the answers!

I may just go with the 3770k. And to be honest, if the green drive is slower and the 840, I wouldn't notice it as my current hard drive is slow as a snail.

But, is the thermal armor molded in that color or is it painted, either way, I wouldn't have any problem painting it as I have mastered the skill of a spray can and an airbrush, but what kind of paint should I use?

Thanks, Karl

Painting plastic is difficult. I hope you know what you're in for. It's molded brownish-black plastic. Your PSU is too much for your rig btw. A solid 500W will be enough. If you want to go SLI one day' date=' 650W is enough. [/quote']

Thanks, yeah I have worked with plastic a lot, have been building scale models for couple of years, since its molded in that color, it made things a lot easier, that means sanding and going over it with a toothbrush and some toothpaste to make it flat in order to prime it.

As for the PSU, I decided to choose a bit more powerful in order not to swap it in the future, but might just swap it for a 650W one.

I think it's only fair to remind you that components are only using less power. It's unlikely that new hardware is going to drink more juice. You could just get a 650W PSU with a 7 year warranty and keep it for your next two builds :d

All up to you though!

1. if you are going to render and edit a lot of videos 8 GB of RAM is not going to be enough. specially with After effects and such. so my recommendation get more RAM max out the boards capacity if can cox RAM is supper cheap these days, plus go for more capacity over more speed. 32 GB of 1866Mhz is better for rendering is much better than 8GB of 2300mhz and as for gaming 8gb of any is fine. so go for more RAM. but if you have the budget then get more ram from the same speed.

2. Video rendering DOES benefit from more threads. so like other people advised you if you can get a i7 it will be beneficial to you in more than one way. even the newer games are being optimesed for more cores these days. ie crysis 3 and far cry 3(using cry engine 3)

3. Please GET Segate Barracudas becasue the green drives are just a wast of money.

4. SSD - any of the following is a good choice - OCZ Vector, Samsung 840 Pro, Plextor M5

5. keyboard and mouse - this totaly depends on you my man. its what fits you. try a bunch of different stuff at your local shop and then orde it from anywhere you like.

6. case. this depends no what you want form a case. sleek and practical? go with fractal design, water cooling? go with corsair or silverstone, air cooling and all out crazy looks go with antec. and the model depends on your needs. we can not recommend it for you.

and don't forget to get a IPS or PLS or VA panel if you are going to do a lot of video editing and stuff like that.

other than these things i dont see any other problems

Yeah, I have decided that I'll chose the 3770k as for rendering, I don't do much with Aftereffects but with Premiere and Vegas, so I think 16GBs will be enough.

As for the mice, Razer and Rocat aren't for me and the R.A.T series is way too much even though they are comfortable (using a R.A.T. 3 right now) and for the quality I chose Logitech.
