you could run a live Linux version like Mint for a while

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

i would recomend the Cinnamon variant, burn that to a USB stick and boot from it and you should be good basically

"windows to go" is unfortunately only supported on windows enterprise and education editions. It is great in that it installs a full copy of windows to run off the USB key and works great.

There is a tool called "RUFUS" for making bootable usb keys from an ISO image. It has an option to set up a drive as "windows to go" but I have never actually tested it myself. Might be worth a shot.

When in doubt, re-format.

The only "official" way to run from a USB drive is via Windows To Go, which is an enterprise feature. The main issue with booting Windows from a USB device is that under normal circumstances Windows refuses to boot from a non-permanent storage device, and particularly on USB it also would require a boot-time driver for that. So while you could put an EFI install of Windows on a USB drive, chances are you won't get it to work without a lot of messing around.

Easiest solution is as @Bananasplit_00 suggested: Linux. You can run Ubuntu, Mint, or any other distro you prefer from a USB drive, either natively or via Universal USB Installer.

download the ISO file, use USB burner of your choice and burn the ISO file to the USB stick, then put the stick in your computer and get into the  boot menue, usiually by hitting F8 during boot and then select the USB stick. it should now start to load stuff and eventiually put you in a desktop enviroment and there you go :)
