Ethernet cable not working pls help

I have 2 Ethernet connections one to my router and one to my computer. The one in my router is fine. The one in my computer is not. When I put the Ethernet box into the plug it turns on fine. When I put the cable connected to the box into my computer nothing happens. My Ethernet connection has worked fine for the last three months. my brother disconnected my cable from my computer port and now even when I put it back in it does not work. Why and how can I fix it?
