I recently picked up a i7 3770 for cheap and I've been debating using it for myself or selling it.

I currently have an overclocked FX8320 on a 990fx board.

Is it a worthwhile upgrade? Or should I just wait until I can buy something new?

My PC is mainly used for games and some occasional video editing/encoding work

System specs:

4790k

GTX 1050

16GB DDR3

Samsung evo SSD

a few HDD's

Do you know of anywhere I can buy a descent motherboard? I hate eBay and no retailer seems to stock 1155 boards anymore.

I buy used parts on ebay all the time and I've never had any problems.  In fact, i've gotten some of the best deals off that site,  just gotta pay attention to who you're buying from.  You could also try sites like craigslist ( or the Canadian equivalent, if there is such a thing.)

Max I would spend is 150$ CAD + shipping. Would also want an H or Z chipset.

The i7-3770K would probably be better than the FX8320, but it's still a couple of generations old. It would only be worthwhile if you can get a cheap used motherboard (socket 1155) to go with it.

P.S. An mATX or mini-ITX motherboard will fit in most ATX cases. The backplate is the same size and the mounting holes are a sub-set of ATX. (They're in the same locations, there's just fewer of them.)

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD
