Converting 2.1 setup to 5.1 surround

I already have 2.1 setup (creative t3300) and i was wondering since i bought them if converting 2.1 to 5.1, or even 4.1, was possible with wireless speakers...

Old Mo/Bo's didnt even support 5.1 so now the things with onboard audio have changed (currently using MSI's M5 gaming z170) and all Motherboards support 5.1 is it possible to just add wireless speakers and upgrade your setup, or is it gonna have troubles like lattency etc? :ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:
