Hey,

So I was just going to use HDMI to hook my laptop up to my TV, and run Kodi off my laptop, but it looks like my laptop is shitting out.

Which mini computer is cheap/the best for plugging into my TV purely for running Kodi/maybe a few other apps?

Thanks

How much you wanna spend?

As little as possible. It just needs to be able to stream movies.

What the hell is Kodi? Any PC will do.

what about an nvidia shield, or apple tv? Maybe something like that would do better. It can do netflix, and hbo go at only 100-200~. If not a mac mini is about 300 or less if you look on ebay. the 8 bit guy did a video on them Idk if he put ubuntu on it or upgraded it, but it's very compact.

My new favorite for Kodi and Plex is the ODROID C2, basically like a Raspberry Pi 3 on steroids.  I've had one for about a month now and it has the power to play 4k/60fps h265 video.

Your Best bet is one of these, depending on your budget and what you want to do. The rasberry pi should be fine for 1080p or get the Odroid card for 4k
