Budget Graphics Upgrade.

FakeNSA

So, I am a newbie at this. I love gaming and learning about computers however, and I am wondering which card to buy. My budget would be up to $200 USD, and I would like your honest opinion on what to get. Note: I know that the 1050ti is at least slightly shaded by the rx 470, depending on the title. However, this computer will be located under my desk, between my legs. Is the rx 470 going to be a space heater? I live in California, and gaming during the summer with my current card (radeon 5750) gets very hot at times. Also, I am planning to "upgrade" my current i3 2100 to an i5 2500k or higher, while still staying within that generation. Will that processor give me decent frame rates in newer titles? or am I looking at replacing my whole rig? Thanks!

PS: Aesthetics literally do not matter. This computer will stay under my desk the whole time.

Thank you for your time!

the 470 will be slightly hotter then a 1050TI but probably cooler then your current GPU by a noticable bit. i would get a I5 2500K or I7 2600K and a decent cooler and overclock the living hell out of it, or if you dont have a motherboard that allows you to overclock an I7 2600

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

The i5 2500K will be a decent upgrade, but also take a look at the i7 3770K. For the card, no worries the 470 isn't a hot card. By the way at 200 USD you can find 4GB RX 480s, if you can pay more I would recommend paying the extra 30-50 USD to get a 1060 6GB or a RX 480 8GB depending on which performs best at the games you play or plan on playing in the future.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford to pay that much... Also, isn't the i7 3770k incompatible with LGA 1155? and finally, I cannot overclock. Thank you for the information!

1050ti is very similar to a 960.. itsn't a good deal, 470 is faster, 1060 A LOT faster and it's a cold card, 480 is like 1060 but a bit warmer.

and yes, upgrading your cpu will make you have more fps.

No, I'm sure they are aware of your points. The users are only tying to help by providing insight on the market.

I understand. In my honest opinion, an RX 470 would be a fine choice for an upgrade in your system. The heat output is much less than that of your current card and much cooler than last generation cards on both the red and green side.

The question is, how much are you paying for the "Aura RGB!" Jk, Jk. I have heard good things about asus! Will save pennies and buy soon.

To be honest, about $15USD-$25USD goes into the fancy lights and commodities on the card, but all worth it in my experience. I have one of these cards myself and I'm really happy with it. Performance is on par or better than what I've seen advertised as well as a damn solid build. Something ASUS always does pretty well. This card runs pretty quiet too with the fancy STRIX fans :P Under the sparkles and glitter, there's a beast at work.

Nah, it's the same socket as the i3 2100:

http://ark.intel.com/products/65523/Intel-Core-i7-3770K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

Look at the i7 3770 non k, but who knows maybe the used i7 3770k could be cheaper.
