According to LTT atleast it appears my RX 460 I've had for over a month now is beaten pretty clearly in every aspect for the same price. I suppose my salvation is that I have a freesync capable monitor, but for the most part it looks like no matter what AMD does they can't catch a break. I just wonder why it is so.

I got the RX 460 because I was left using either my i5 3450's integrated graphics or an HD 8350 that was marginally better and I wanted something to best utilize the capabilities of my 1920x1080p monitor for the lowest cost and the 140 dollar RX 460 I got fit the bill with the next possible option being the 200 dollar RX 470 which was a 60 dollar price jump.

I got the RX 460 with the intention of using it for as long as I have a 1920x1080p monitor so I aknowledge that my card is no longer the best at its intended market, but now I should look to the future for when something like 4k becomes more alluring to me. I like to be humble so I don't invest more than is needed to PC upgrades which is why I like entry level hardware like these video cards, but out of curiocity what sort of GPU do you consider a "base requirement" when upgrading to 4K?

The rx 460 was overpriced from get go. Full Polaris 11 should have been competitive with these cards, but that's nowhere in sight. We're still not sure if Apple got exclusive rights to it like they did with the R9 380x initially.

But...but...that's a 1050ti where it's more expensive than a RX460 anyway :P. The RX460 is a hellva more competitive when it's compared to the normal 1050 ;)

I'm waiting for 4k monitors to drop in price, on top of that I'm going to wait until at least 2018 to upgrade from my 980ti. (plays 1440p amazingly) I've got my fingers crossed for 2018 though. As of right now I'd go for a 1080 if possible. But if you don't have a 4k monitor yet, this will vary depending what refresh rate you are aiming for.

No, I requested advice on the future for 4K upgrades. I think waiting for a year or two is actually good advice. Monitors will likely be cheaper and there will be more GPUs touted for them.

Edit: For now the most demanding game I play is Planetside 2 in which case the RX 460 is adequite. Battlefield 1 is looking like it could replace Planetside 2, but even if it does I've seen RX 460 benchmarks for BF1 and they're clearly better than I was fearing.

1. That's the MSRP and currently with the prices of the RX480/470 and 1060, it's possible that the 1050ti would cost more than $140.

2. That depends on where OP lives as according to Vortez (a UK based tech review), zotac 1050 will roughly cost around £115 pushing the 1050 2GB into 4GB RX460 territory :P

Ah well, first world problems with pricing ;)

on a side note, I wonder how fucked people who bought a RX470/480 (or even the 1060 3GB, in the past 2 week or so) feels right now  as AMD has drastically lowered the prices of em in Murica :P

But the performance difference isn't like the difference between it and a RX470/1060 3GB so...even if AMD didn't lower the prices, for double the difference, you can get a GPU that performs more than double the performance difference between the RX460 and 1050ti ;)
