Need a Replacement Phone

So my current phone, a Xperia M4 Aqua, has kicked the bucket. My contract has 1 year to go so I need a new phone for that time. I live in Canada so I think you'll know what our pricing is like right now.  Any other ideas would be helpful but for now here's the specifications Budget is max $250 CAD but if I can get for less then $200 that would be amazing cause I'm saving for school.

 

I need:

LTE

Either 32GB storage or a micro-sd expansion

minimum 1GB ram

Android 5.1 or higher (or ios 9 or higher) - not that interested in apple but if a good deal is found i'll take it.

bluetooth 4.1

1280x720p screen

4.5' screen

Relatively ok camera if possible re. my M4 had a great camera but the sensor wasn't that amazing in certain light conditions but it was fine otherwise

Unlocked (I'm with Rogers but if the phone is good enough it'll last a while I'd like to be able to use it as a backup on what ever other carrier I go with once my contract is over.)

some sort of battery saver mode (I've been spoiled by Sonys Stamina Mode and Ultra stamina Mode which have saved my ass in many an occasion and are absolutely amazing)

 

What I would like (If possible on my budget) Not everything has to be met but as much as possible I would prefer))

16GB storage with a SD card slot

2-3 GB Ram

Android 6.0 with maybe support for 7.0

Full 1080p HD Screen or higher

5' Screen

NFC

FM Radio (am is not really needed but...)

Good camera

Temperature sensors in device

 

I looked at the LeEco Le S3 and the Le Pro3 but they are a little expensive for right now for me considering that $250 US is about 334 CAD.

The Asus Zenphone MAX looks ok but just ok

Any suggestions would be amazing because i'm kinda desperate right now considering that I use my phone for absolutely everything I do.

Thoughts on the MediaTek Helio P10 and the arm Mali T860 inside? Don't really know much about phone processors

A Xiaomi Redmi Note 3/4 would do the trick.
As would most of their phones tbh

In the future it will be discovered that there was never anything wrong with the Note 7, it was instead an elaborate prank by several trolls. Samsung went on the sue the mastermind for $300 million and settled outside of court for an undisclosed amount.

About an hour from the border but no passport right now. It ran out this year and I'm just too lazy to get it renewed cause It needs to change to an adult one and thats not cheap. Winnipeg. THE major city for my province.

Ahh yeah. You could always sign up for the $100 rebate, buy the S3 and get it sent to one of the facilities that will reship it to Canada. It'd be a bit of work but likely well worth it. I intend to buy one just for shiggles.

Honestly, as I fellow Canadian, I know how you feel about hte pricing.

I'm currently using the Moto G2 from Motorola and I picked it up on Black Friday in 2014 at Staples for $200. I think you can pick it up now for $200 still as the original prie unlocked was $250 when I bought it.

Other than only having 1GB of RAM, and only 8GB of internal storage (though the issuse isn't as bad with Android 6.0 and it's feature to have external storage act as faster internal storage if you are willing to format you SD card.

It'll do you for the rest of your year of contract and if actually at the $200 mark and meets all of you minimum requirements.

My Moto G2 had a software issue where it would't boot, but I bought the $30 1 year extended replacement plan from Staples and they replaced it no questions asked so if any goes wrong, you have yourself a new phone for $30. And if you chose to get a different phone down the line or if they now longer carry the G2, you can use the value of the G2 ($200) on your next phone.

 

Other than the G2, Staples also carries the G3 for $300+ which isn't a significant upgrade from the G2, so I wouldn't reccommend it at that price. For the $350 range, the Asus Zenfone lineup is worth a look if you want a bigger 5.5" screen.

Keep in mind you won't get full LTE coverage with the Redmi.

Thanks for letting me know. I completely forgot to check the bands supported. Just looked it up and i'm disappointed in the band support. Band 7 is the only one here supported. A major thing I loved about my M4 aqua was the massive Band Support. So it seems I won't be getting this one after all. Ah well the search continues

Yeah. Band 7 is the "high speed" band, however it also has the worst penetration.

I'd seriously look into the S3 if you're looking for a budget device. $150 USD is hard to beat.

True it does look really good. The Umi Plus also looks nice for the bands supported but again price point is an issue. Unless anyone else has other better ideas I think I may hit the book and go for the Le S3. On the sale day of course

You have to sign up for the rebate ahead of time, and it's technically only available in the US; so you'd have to use the mail redirection service.

The Umi looks nice, but unfortunately supports the same bands that the Redmi does. The P10 is a little old as well, and wasn't that strong to begin with.

There's no used or new in box phones locally? Should be able to get an older Moto X Pure, Z3, etc for that budget.

The rebate is automatically applied through Le Ecos store as a $100 credit on it. So technically it's useless unless you are planning to buy other things off the store. I've been looking locally but used everyone want exorbitant prices for older models and new is just well... jacked up or "new contract only for $0!"
