The i5 makes more sense if you ask me, but we can't help you with that decision unless you tell us what you're putting it with, your budget, et cetera

It all really come down to what you are trying to use this PC for. If it is for light work and no heavy cpu usage, then go with i3. If you want to game and do multitasking things then u should get the i5...

PS. You should also get a different motherboard :P

Is there a budget?  I mean we could tell you to get an i7-6700k to do that with no budget.

That will take a lot of CPU horse power. Look at possibly getting a use i7. It will out perform both of those CPUs. Something like an i7-4770, 3770, 4790

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

[Under Construction]

My Truck --- 2002 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke || 6-speed

My Car --- 2006 Mustang GT || 5-speed || BBK LTs, O/R X, MBRP Cat-back || BBK Lowering Springs, LCAs || 2007 GT500 wheels w/ 245s/285s

The Experiment --- CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.0 GHz || MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LK || RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600 4x4 || Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo || GPUs: Asus GTX 750 Ti, || PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold || Case: Thermaltake Core G21 TG || SSD: 840 Pro 128GB || HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB

R.I.P. Asus X99-A motherboard, April 2016 - October 2018, may you rest in peace. 5820K, if I ever buy you a new board, it'll be a good one.

Mind me asking whats wrong with your build right now?  The i7 will do better than the two listed processors.

I going to have to say buddy but I think that neither two of your cpus will barely pass those requirements. Care for the i7s?

I'd suggest the i5 but the i3 could do recording and editing if you were to use GPU based recording software like Nvidia and AMD offer to take some of the load off the CPU.

You lose some flexibility and customizability with GPU recording software vs CPU dependant ones.

Editing and rendering would take more time but if you're just doing it as a hobby and weren't trying to crank out several videos a day then the i3 would be okay.

If you were to do any streaming then I'd go with the i5 minimum as playing, rendering and streaming it out on the fly can be quite taxing.

What? i5's will record and render videos. He only has $600 to work with. He can use Nvidia Shadowplay and Resolve for very good performance. It's like buying a Hummer for off-roading rather than an old Jeep.

Shadowplay with a 1060 6GB hits your system for about 5-10% less performance.

Why not just get a 1060 6GB? Your i7 and 16GB of RAM should do well for recording and rendering.
