Need help choosing a barebones

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

The D510 has 4 threads, the older one has 2. I'd go with the D510.

If you ever need to know stuff about processors just Google it and check the Intel ARK.

These won't make great media devices though. You're limited to a single 2.5" drive.

A computer shop near me has two different barebones on sale, each for $25. These are the two in question:

Here's the thing: I don't know nearly enough about Atom processors, especially ones dating back to 2008 and 2010 respectively, to even begin to guess at which is the better PC. All this will be used for is a media server, maybe very occasionally as a HTPC, but I don't anticipate it being used for anything more intense than that. Any idea which of those is a wee bit more powerful than the other?

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

ARK, duh. Should've looked there. I also found a PCMag article from way back when that compares the two, which are apparently contemporaries. The D510 runs slightly faster and, biggie, supports 667 and 800MHz RAM, with the 330 pinned at 533MHz. Seems like a no-brainer in favor of the XS35. Thanks!

I've got a 750GB sitting around. That'll suffice until I can get a bigger one in here, and really, it won't even be hooked up to a monitor 90% of the time. Media server first, HTPC distant second.

Id probably stay away from these. There old and will struggle to play youtube videos.

Get a core 2 duo if you want a cheap system.

Eh, $25 media server then.
