Go to solution Solved by DanTheActualMan,

2. wait for terminal show

3. release keys

4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"

5. press enter

6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone

7. press enter

8. type without the quotes: "reboot"

9. press enter

My brother had recently found (for free, omg!) an iMac A1311 with an i3. He wants to wipe the drive and reinstall OS X 10.7 lion or newer, but he doesn't have the password which he might need (neither of us is a Mac guy, so we have no clue what to do). Anyone know how to reinstall OS X? The only disk we have is for 10.5 leopard, and to boot from that requires the password, which neither of us know. Could someone help us out? Thanks!

On step 4, is that a space between mount and -uaw?

yes it is, and if you ever want to know just try and click and drag in the space between where you think a space might be, if it ends up being highlighted with no character highlighted then its a space
