So my PC says that when idle (with chrome and some other programs open) it uses 40-50% of my memory, but when i check the size i only see the programs go up to 150 mb.

So why is it that 40% of my ram is being used if the programs don't go anywhere near to 1gb of ram/program? It makes some games like Battlefield 1 keep stuttering, which is really annoying.

Any help is appreciated

got to play the game of which process is causing a memory leak. Start out with shutting down chrome after which do a shut down and turn on of said desktop, dont restart it, literally turn it off and back on.

Because programs don't need to use 1GB+ of ram...?

You realize that ram usage adds up the ram of all processes, right? Not just the ones using over 1GB?

If you have 40 processes using just 100MB each that is 4GB of ram right there.

seems usual mine is at 3.9 gb right now

i have 6 chrome tabs open making me use 6gigs of ram lol.

Task manager also tells me my highest task uses ~250mb so that doesn't mean shit.

I even have 1gig dedicated as cache for my SSD which isn't listed.

Nope

Are you using stock cooler? How old is your thermal compound?

Since you already got an unlocked chip it would be a shame not to overclock it (assuming you also have the appropriate mobo). Also it's not very likely but you could try checking what's up with your GPU since that could also be the source of the issue (just crank down the settings and see if that fixes it).

Settings have nothing to do with it, i tried. Also I installed the CPU about 6-7 months ago. Stock cooler, bought the unlocked version so i can overclock it when i buy a better one

I'd say that it's high time you buy one then (assuming you have the budget).

So running at 84 degrees is too high? You think its thermal throttling?

Nope, I think you can't overclock it while staying in the safe zone as it stands. 84 degrees is as far as it can go so to get more juice out of it you need to improve your cooling.

Yep i know, but I don't see why it's running at 100% usage while not overclocked. This CPU is more than capable to run this game

Why wouldn't it run at 100% usage when not overclocked? Do you realize that this value is relative to what it's currently capable of, not to what it could be capable of if overclocked?

If you refer to the minimum specs published by the developer it falls a bit short actually. Though I do realize those are a bit higher than the actual ones.

Perhaps some other process eats a lot of your CPU's power? Look into it.
