I prefer 7 over 8. Seems like some games have a difficult time running on windows 8. I dont know if this is still a problem, but it was on the release. Maybe they fixed it already, or in the upcoming 8.1

Windows 8 performs better and is smoother. You should just pick the one you prefer though.

ive used windows 7 on my last two laptops, and before that windows vista, and even then, comparing vista to windows 7 doesnt seem nearly as awful as windows 7 to windows 8/8.1

i dont know what it is about windows 8 but it just looks like there trying to become the new apple..

It's a matter of taste buying a W7 or W8(1) os.

I had W8 on my new Samsung laptop and I didn't have that much of great experience with it (BSOD in the first hour of usage ) and because my programs (at that time) didn't work at all, so I downgraded to W7.

Conclusion.

If you want to be safe use Windows 7.

(Start button, Aero Desktop, compatibility)

If you want to "pioneer" in to the new Microsoft os than get W8.

(Metro UI, fast and responsive)

Windows 8 x64. You may find it handy with x64 if you're going over 3/4Gbs of ram. I would not recommend Windows 8.1 just yet. But you can update them later for free when it has settle down.

Just get Windows 8 x64 if your location still sells it. Windows 8.1 is based on Windows NT 6.3. Which you might want to observe first.

windows NT 6.3? might have to look into that
