2016 RBS :D I know it's not a 'gaming' laptop, but for the games that I would play on a laptop, it's more than enough for me.

If you can spend a little more I'd get the Samsung T3 and take advantage of the extra speed with the USB 3.1 on your Stealth.

I'm picking up a new laptop fairly soon, and i'm going to need some external storage for my games. I was wondering if you guys/gals could give me some input on the items i'm looking at purchasing.

While I'm quite interested in this idea, I can't seem to find an adapter or anything that would allow me to charge the system at the same time. Maybe i'm not looking hard enough?

Are you trying to play games with an external SSD?

If so, just go for a regular HDD if you want extra space because you won't be able to use the full potential of the SSD. Even USB 3.0 will affect greatly the read and write speed of the SSD, so it's not worth it IMO.

Games on external hard drives are also often unstable. (From what I heard)

From what I've concluded in my own endeavors. I've used a usb 3.0 enclosure with a 5400rpm drive for a while. Occasionally I would see slight hiccups, but the games would eventually stabilize unless i'm running around like a mad man loading tons of new textures and areas. I figure if I can maximize the speed with an ssd and a type c connector, it might even eliminate the small hiccups altogether. Most of the games that had these issues, I don't even play anymore though, so I don't think it will be much of an issue.

I was looking for the same thing for my wife's Mac and the only ones ones that have the charging feature only have USB 3.0 ports.

I'm sure we'll see one in the near future but you should still consider the T3 even if you'll only get the full 480MBs while on battery power.  I have the 250GB version and it's fast.

yeah, looks like the best option. still within my budget so that's a plus as well

Why not just upgrade the internal drive? It's a little more but saves a lot of headache.
