Check your motherboards manual to make sure it's a Line In and then select Listen to this device in audio settings.

so i would like my phone to play sound out of the headphones plugged into pc. someone said that a "mixer would o this somewhere on a forum but i don't even know what a mixer is. i can guess it mixes audio into 1 output but i don't even know if this works. any help is good. thanks!

you can use a convuluted streaming process.....something like getting the content from your phone to the PC through a service and then playing it from there. But the point of it isnt apparent here

what do you want to achieve with this , maybe that will give better answer,,

Well, My headset (Logitech G933) is USB wireless and has an analogue input, and I have had my phone play music through analogue and my PC play sound via wireless, so it is certainly possible.

Analogue aduio is kind of strange in that the cables let you do pretty much whatever, aka you could use a headphone splitter in reverse and it would probably work.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

what do you mean by line in?

A desktop PC usually has at least 3 audio jacks in the rear which are microphone (pink), front speaker (lime) and line in (light blue).

Most often 3 more for additional surround speakers.
