Second 970 vs new GPU?

Sacredvolt

I'm thinking of upgrading my PC (specs below). I bought an SLI-compatible motherboard when planning this build for the option of SLI in the future but looking at the state of SLI now I'm wondering if it would be worth it. Do you guys think should get another 970 or buy a whole new GPU? If the latter, any recommendations?  I intend to be playing on 1440p, mainly triple-A titles and some overwatch.

Specs:
CPU: Intel i7-4790k
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-SLI
GPU: Asus Strix GTX 970
Case: Corsair Carbide 100R
PSU: Corsair RM1000 (Overpowered, I know. Only found out you didn't need that much power after buying)

I'd say if you wanted to out do the 970 then get a 1080 and not SLI the 970. I have a 1070 and it handles GTA V (most intensive game I have) at high settings on my 3440x1440 ultra wide.

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

I just upgraded from 970 which was a great set up "when/if" games supported SLI, which tbh, is quite a lot. However, the experience of 1x 1080 has been worth the money spent and ive recouped over half the cost by selling the 970's

Upgrade to a single GPU. The amount of video memory on the GTX 970 will likely be a bottleneck when it comes to 1440p gaming.

I'd be looking at the GTX 1070 and above.

I would upgrade your gpu. It's already behind more current/high end ones.

I would say skip and wait till another generation of GPU's. 970 is just fine for the time being. If you want a GPU now, just sell 970 and get a 1080 to call it a day.

Agreed, I had VRAM bottleneck a single GTX970 in some games at 1080p.

If you can afford, a single more expensive GPU is always better than SLI. Not all games scale well with SLI.

I am using 970 SLI on 1440p by the way

Oops forgot about this post. I think I'll go with getting a 1070, SLI doesn't seem like a good idea.  Thanks for the replies guys

What settings do you play gta v at? I have a 1070 and a 2560x1080 monitor and I have to compromise on quite a few settings to get a solid 60+ fps. I also have a 6700k.

Most always say to upgrade. Bringing up sli issues and vram bs. Depends on the games and res itself. If you feel like dropping the cash on a new card that will cost 2-3 times the price of a 970 then go for it. I've tried a few of the top cards out of the last 2 gens. Wasn't worth the cash. Gonna stick with my old 7 series cards for another year at least.

I'll have to review again but I believe most everything is set to high except reflections and I think I scale distance rendering back just a touch

A 1070/1080 rather. It avoids vram issues, heat, power draw and other problems that come with sli.

Nothing.
