personally, I think the MSI one LOOKS better and I don't care much about noise unless it is obscenely loud nor do I care a whole lot about looks. As randomguy1911 said the Gigabyte card will be quieter. it's just up to your preference.

Temps will likely be the same, but the gigabyte one will be quieter.

And since you have a tempered glass sidepanel it would look better and has a backplate.

Does one noticeably outperform the other?

and why isn't there much difference in temps since one is water cooled?

both these cards are air cooled...the MSI card has the cheapest blower plastic fan on it it's garbage, the gigabyte card is a lot better in this case.

Wtf? Last time I looked that bitch had a radiator on it.

yo! that's the SEA HAWK brother...not the same:

good thing you asked huh cause you were in for a real disapointment...that plastic blower is good for cooling the memory chips and the mosfets on the card...but for cooling the GPU itself...yeah no i strongly suggest something else mate ;)

Are there any water cooled 1080s less than $700?

i doubt...but a good air cooler is more than enough.

What would be a good red and black one that stays pretty cool in a hot place and has a higher base clock than most? Is the one I picked good?

yeah the one you picked is not bad but it's black and ORANGE...not red...

i would suggest this one:

MSI cards are top notch....that cooler is amazing very quiet and you can overclock this a lot...

I have one right now so I know they're pretty nice. I was just hoping to maybe change up the look a little instead of having the same old look.

Also the one I linked has a higher core clock, so wouldn't it be able to achieve near the same boost clock or better? It also had more fans

more fans mean more noise...my card also has 3 fans and guess what it's much louder because the fans are smaller and they spin faster and there are 3 of them.

and as for the clocks out of the box...just instal MSI afterburner and push the slider you can easily make all of them run at 2000mhz or so...takes 2 minutes to overclock these cards so i wouldn't worry about stock clocks...and they are pretty much all the same anyways.

Well actually doesn't it runncooler though? Since you have more fans and they spin faster that means more airflow correct? So wouldn't it run cooler at the same clock than other with just 2?

i don't care about noise since I have a noisy ass ac

no, it's also hotter...that depends more on the design of the heatskink itself though but the MSI one is top notch...look if you like the orange gigabyte card better it's a good card too i'm not trying to convince you...but the MSI card is better.

I would tend to agree, and to clarify I like the shroud design better but the plastic looks horrible. Really for OP, I've had 2 EVGA cards and I've loved them both. EVGA 780 SC and EVGA 1070 SC.
