I seem to have a problem with my new setup.

I bought new motherboard, cpu and ram.

What happens is that in some games the FPS is all wrong.

Age of Empires 2 HD on steam will not go over 18 FPS but usually is at 12 FPS.

H1Z1 is at around 10 to 20 FPS, unless I stare at the ground, then the FPS is at 40.

While at the same time I can play the new doom, overwatch, diablo 3, metal gear solid 5, roller coaster tycoon and rocket league without a problem.

When I had just put in my new hardware I could not play rocket league or diablo 3, so I formated my C drive to get rid of old drivers,

and it worked for these games but only sortof for age of empires 2, because before I formated it only gave 4 FPS.

Also the low FPS is only a problem ingame, not the menus.

I had none of these problems before I uppgraded.

My rig is:

(new) Asus Strix X99 Gaming

(new) Intel Core i7-6850K

(new) Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) 3333MHz / DDR4 / CL16

ASUS GeForce STRIX GTX 980 Ti 6GB

Corsair AX 1200W PSU

Any help would be appreciated.

Might be those games are not optimized for the gpu or cpu you have, that can actually happen in older titles, which can cause the lower FPS.

Also I have a few recommendations for you, if this was a first build use it as a learning experience.

First off on the CPU. Unless your doing some serious editing or creation software then that CPU is major overkill. If this is a gaming-mainly rig, return that and get a i7 6700k for 1/2 of the cost because there aren't any games that take advantage of more than 4 cores, and I promise you will get the same performance.

32 gb of ram is also overkill. I can think of only one obscure title that even benefits from more than 8 gb of ram. Return two of those sticks, (unless its a kit) because honestly you would be fine with 16gb.

1200 W PSU! Major overkill once again, for your rig you could be using a 550 watt and not even touch that. I would return it for a 650 watt or 750 so you have room to upgrade, but even then that is way more power than you need.

And finally on the 980 ti - If you go with my suggestions you should have literally an extra $500-$700 in your budget, which you can also turn in that 980 TI and upgrade to the 1080.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

I would have understood if I could not play it from the beginning, before I bought new hardware, and if it was only in that game.

But since it is also in H1Z1, which is not an old game, I just don't understand why it happens.

And if it is because the cpu or gpu is not optimized, how do I optimize it, if I can?

Have you downloaded gpu drivers at all?

The devs would have to optimize it if it is that, and what are your gpu/cpu/ram/disk usages when the low fps happens?

Have to agree this, serisouly, you have spend some $$$$ uselessly here, 1200w psu, does that increase performance ? ( joke )

Anyway, maybe the guy has ton of money and give a sh!t... so its fine..

Dunno what causes the lag tho, Format, reinstall drivers from Nvidia website.

Maybe hes running out of Ram or Power from the PSU ? ( haha )

I have nvidia gforce experience which keep my drivers updated, and I reinstalled my drivers with no luck.

In H1Z1 my cpu is 20%, ram is 30%, disk is 0 to 15% and gpu is 100%

In AoE2 my cpu is 18%, ram is 15%, disk is 0 to 5% and gpu is 100%

I would try to reinstall those two games, see if there is any issues happening with those specific games, I know H1Z1 is still in early access, or try rolling back the graphics drivers the newest ones are also beta and will have issues.

So just because he have more money then he can spend he can't play his games? O.o

Older games are built around older bit ranges and can come into conflict with newer systems, unless you get remastered or optimized re-releases of those titles. Also happens all the time with new operating systems.
