hey guys, i have this gigabyte p35w v5 laptop. i've own it for arounf 5 months now, and it gives me the bluescreen that there's something wrong with my windows.after it restarted itself the windows won't boot. so i gave it to the gigabyte service to be fixed. it was fixed for a while then after 2 months the bluescreen is back. so i tried removing the ssd and cleaning its contacts, then i restart my laptop and it worked. a couple weeks after that the bluescreen appeared again. so i did the whole removing and cleaning and it worked again. my laptop is working at the moment, but how do i prevent this error. is it the ssd? or the mother board? i dont think its the mother board though. should i change my ssd?

the ssd model is

L8T-128L9G

i don't mind to change the ssd, because i do need a bigger (c) drive.

thanks for the support. much love

Connecting/disconnecting your SSD should not solve the problem, if it were a SSD problem in my opinion. If all the connectors on your SSD also don't wobble at all, I would think there is some other connector not propperly fixed.

Also, SSD's don't have any moving parts, and there shouldn't be that much airflow (so no big dust buildup). + if you would look at the dust build-up on my HDD connectors, you should know cleaning isn't required.

If you want a bigger C-drive anyways, you could just buy a new SSD, but I doubt it will fix your problem, because I really think it's an internal (laptop) bad connection...

I agree with @Dutch-stoner, very unlikely to be the SSD connection itself. Next time you get a BSOD, instead of taking out the SSD etc... just reboot it and see if it works again. I think you've kind of placebo'd yourself by doing such and such and then the PC working again.

When Gigabyte had the laptop for repair, what did they do to it?

I'd be inclined to send it back for repair again at only 5 months old.

@paddy-stone thank you very much for your input. i tried to restart the laptop multiple times, but for some reason it only works if i disconnect the ssd and reconnect it (when i restart it, it went to bios). i even tried swapping the m.2 slot ( the gigabyte p35w has two m.2 sata slot) it worked for a while but then went back to the BSOD. when i send it to gigabyte they said that it had a faulty ssd so they replaced it. i'm not very inclined to send it back to gigabyte because their service building location is quite far from where i live, and since i'm a student i need my laptop for my daily use. the last time i gave it back to gigabyte it took the a whole week. thanks for the input you guys are very helpful

No worries. I am inclined to believe that from this further information we now have, that either you have another faulty SSD or that the BIOS/UEFI needs updating or worse still that the mothernoard is broken. There are ways to test out this theory, but as you need your laptop for school it's not ideal to test them.

I'm sorry to say that you only have 2 choices really:-

1) Get a replacement/fix from gigabyte.

2) Keep doing this fix until it won't do it anymore, which could be any time now or years from now.

What it sounds like to me is that the boot order keeps gettings messed up/confused by the UEFI... and that when you disconnect the SSD and re-connect it's forced to reset to defaults, which is why you get sent into BIOS on restarting the laptop. I'm not sure whether it's fixable at all to be honest, it's been a common problem now for a while and usually people resort to re-installing the windows OS... it's debateable whether this actually fixes the problem or not as some report that it just starts doing this behaviour again after some time. So that leads me to believe that it's actually a faulty motherboard, rather than just settings that get confused.

Anyway, sorry I can't help you more than that. But if I were you I would back up my files/folders to an external drive and send the laptop back again and ask for a replacement or a refund... there's no way a 5 month old laptop that has already been "fixed" with the same problem, should have to keep being sent back. They should refund or replace.

Can you ask a friend/relative to lend you a device that you can use for school? or maybe ask gigabyte for a loaner while yours is being looked at?

@paddy-stone thank you very much for your help and support. you have given me a lot to think of. a couple days ago it happened for a few of times at the same day, but it happened while i was in chrome and opened a few tabs on chrome. so i tried re installing chrome and clean my laptop with windows defender. the windows defender didn't find any virus or malware. at the moment my laptop is working fine, after i reinstall chrome( even though i don't think this is a fix). it will have to do for now. the school year is almost finish. if the BSOD appear again i'll be sure to give it back to gigabyte. thank you very much

  • 4 weeks later...

@paddy-stone i gave it back to the gigabyte support. they replaced the ssd around a few weeks back. the laptop was repaired and i was happy for a moment. but it died again on me today. now when i turn it on it just went to a terminal and ask for me to connect a boot-able device. this sucks, i tried the old trick of re-attaching the ssd but it didn't work. right now i just wish to get a new device or a refund. huff, what do you think i should do? thanks

P.S it died on me when i was trying to open steam ( I think the program i opened has nothing to do with the problem)

the transcend is the new ssd

I know it's a pain, but contact gigabyte again, you're well within your rights for them to repair again and again until it's fixed... but I would ask for a refund now if possible, As this is taking a lot of time and effort on your part, when you just want a working laptop.

Contact them again and see what they say this time... remind them that they have already tried to fix it twice and that you're not happy that this keeps happening and you just want a working laptop. Then ask them if they can refund you or replace with a NEW laptop. Again remind them that this has been a problem since it was only x months old (where x is the number of months you had it before problems arose), and that you believe that the item is not fit for purpose.

I would look into consumer law for whichever country you are in... it differs from country to country as to what the law says about your rights as a consumer.

this is the message i sent to gigabyte

my gigabyte p35x v5 have break down 3 times by the same problem (after it went to BSOD, the windows will not boot). the service centre replaced the ssd but it didn't seemed to fix anything. at this point i just want either my money back or a brand new laptop

and this is their reply

Dear andrew,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. After checking, your notebook model is P35W v5. The P35W v5 comes with GeForce GTX 970M graphics and the P35X v5 use GeForce GTX 980M chipset. You can check this information to recognize your notebook model.

Meanwhile, this case needs further confirmation. It may take some time for the whole procedure but we will keep you post as soon as there is any update available.

Best Regards,
GIGABYTE

i mean like i dont care about the model number (just a damn typo). i just want a working laptop. this one is soo pissing me off, because its quite expensive and it broke down for no good reason. gigabyte support also didn't say anything useful regarding this problem. I'm just sad now. thanks for keeping me company

Ya I agree with them, if they replaced the ssd and still the same problem. Get a refund or a repair, have them replace the motherboard this time if you do have them repair it. Otherwise have them replace it entirely with a new laptop. Maybe they had a bad batch and didnt know it. You don't want to get stuck with this problem. If they repair it and it continues to happen again, demand a refund and buy at least a slightly different model.

There are laptops out there that just have a bad design and are prone to failing quickly or in quirky ways. I cant tell you how many hp laptop motherboard I had to replace, all of them the same model from different people, I don't know if it was the entire design or just bad batches. But I had a ton of them with the same MB problem, and in other cases I had many laptops of the same series with hard drives that just went bad way to quick. It just happens sometimes, even with big reputable companies.

So, are they not taking it in for repair etc anyway to have a look at it and decide what to do?

If they don't reply soon, then you might have to ask to be put in touch with a manager... BUT, and this is a big BUT, be polite with your inquiries and requests. It's ok to remind them that it has been x months and 2 repairs etc and that you would just like a working laptop at this point. And that if they cannot repair the device again to a suitable working condition, that you would LIKE to request either a refund or new laptop please, as this problem has gone on too long now and it needs to be resolved quickly.

You have to be firm but fair, and polite... if you word things wrongly you could end up having to keep chasing them and eventually take it to court or something. So it's always better to be polite about it even if you're pissed off.

I hope this gets resolved for you quickly, I hate broken equipment it's a nightmare.
